What Footman is

Footman is a native macOS app that watches folders on your Mac and automatically sorts, renames, tags and unpacks files based on rules you create. All folder watching, rule matching and file actions happen locally on your computer. Footman does not upload your files or folder contents to any server.

What we collect

We collect very little data. The only information we hold is:

• Your email address — if you buy a licence or use the licence-recovery feature. We need this to send you your licence key.
• Stripe payment information — handled entirely by Stripe. We do not see or store your card details.
• Basic analytics — anonymous page-view data on our website so we know how many people visit.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your file names, folder contents, usage patterns inside the app, or any personal files. Footman does not "phone home" with telemetry or crash reports. The app works entirely offline except when checking for updates or activating a licence.

Licence activation

When you activate Footman, the app sends a one-time request to our server with your licence key and a hashed machine identifier. This is so we can verify your licence and enforce the per-seat limit. We do not track which files you process or how you use the app.

Updates

Footman checks our server for new versions using Sparkle. This sends your current app version number and a random anonymous identifier so we know how many people are on each version. No personal data is included.

How we use your data

We use your email address only to deliver your licence key, recover lost licences, and send important product updates. We do not use it for marketing unless you explicitly opt in, and we never sell or share your email with third parties.

Data retention

We keep your email address and licence record for as long as you have a valid Footman licence, so we can support you and recover lost keys. If you want your data deleted, email us and we will remove it within 30 days.
